2020: The Era of Voice Search, Inbound Tourism, and Automatic Driving - How Companies Can Prepare Today

Companies such as Google, Amazon, Apple and Microsoft are advancing technological innovation like AI and voice search, and the market is about to change dramatically. Meanwhile, many foreigners have visited Japan and the number continues to increase every year. How can Japanese companies reach these foreign visitors who search for information using their own local platforms and services, search in their native languages? We focus on two themes, voice search and measures for inbound tourism, as we dive into the actions that companies should take now.

Eiji Uda is the CEO and Chairman of Yext Co., Ltd., the Japanese subsidiary of Yext. Previously, Uda was in charge of several businesses as a member of the Board of Directors of IBM Japan, Inc. In March 2004, after working as President and Representative Director of SOFTBANK CORPORATION, Uda was asked to be a Senior Vice President at Salesforce.com. Within a month, he took over as Representative Director and President of Salesforce.com’s Japanese subsidiary. While leading the company’s Japanese operations, his work included major projects such as helping to power the privatization of Japan Post, creating the Eco Point System, an IoT partnership with Toyota Motor Corporation, and other emergency requests from the government. In 2012 he took office as Executive Vice President of Salesforce.com, and contributed not only to Japan business but also globally. He became a special advisor to the company in 2014 and retired in 2016.
