Received ME for studies on non-linear optics, and Ph.D on artificial
intelligence, from the University of Tokyo. Via other universities, he
returned to UT and is a full professor since 2007. He initiated
“chance discovery” since 2000, meaning to discover events noteworthy
for decision making, and applied it in businesses such as marketing
and industrial designs. He organized workshops on chance discovery
and on “market of data” for conferences and associations including
International Joint Conference on AI (IJCAI), Association for the
Advancement of AI, edited 8 books as chief e.g., "Chance Discovery"
(2003 Springer), gave more than 20 invited talks in international
conferences and wrote 4 monographs including "Innovators Marketplace”
(2012 Springer), more than 100 journal papers and a larger number of
conference papers. He worked in program committees and as co-chairs of
conferences including IJCAI, initiated the IEEE-SMC TC of Information
Systems for Design & Marketing since 2005.
